BBC Radio 1 has arrived in Second Life, with the renting of four islands to coincide with the Big Weekend Radio Festival.
We got into the island just after 5.30am SL time, when my friend Zapoteth Zaius sent us a teleport. There was a millennium dome-type construction, with a lot of people gathered, many of them wearing headphones or carry radios which were free to copy in the tent.
There were spheres ranged around the tent with photographs of the acts which were playing across the weekend, and people arrived very fast -- soon the island was filled to capacity, and it became hard to move.
The music was good, although the stream kept breaking up -- I think the limit on the number of listeners might have been set rather low. The general feeling was that it was a great idea to run festivals in real life and SL concurrently. More please!
