With the help of a small child, I got the video working for SLCC in time to watch people I know talking on the panel for marketing in SL and the following panel on the media in SL.
I agree the cameraman seems to be drunk or sleepy, as the camera took a lot of time to move from one person to another, but it was great to be able to see and hear the people I know, especially Moopf Murray, as I was wondering if he had made it to SLCC.
The marketing panel was variable, but fascinating because I knew of all the people on the panel, or know them in SL, and it was very interesting to see them talking as flesh and blood people.
I was particularly interested by one of the points that Moopf made, that he had given up on trying to get the green dots to go to his places, and therefore had changed his approach with his reseller vendors, to take his products to the green dots. I have always tended to try to gather green dots with events, but that is getting ever more difficult.
The media panel was also interesting, although I knew a lot fewer people on it. Lordfly Digeridoo made the point that there is no poetry in SL ... not true! I had a set of columns in Dore in 2004 which gave out notecards with poetry, a library in Shoki in 2005 with books with poetry and someone (I am afraid I have forgotten who) has taken copies of my poetry for their poetry garden. Of course, there is a bit of my poetry in Numbakulla too. I am sure there is a lot of publishing going on in SL, it is just that it isn't given publicity ....
One of the problems for writers who work in Sl is that they tend to be in world but not of the world, and I think that the media panel demonstrated that. Hamlet (James Au) talked about finding stories in world but not knowing what else is going on. The more writing work they are doing, the less time they can spend in SL, which is getting bigger and bigger.
It wasn't like being there ... but it was certainly better than punching the quicktime play button 10 times and being timed out over and over again.

Yes, it *is* an interesting theory, however, what Moopf actually does in world, when you ask to get one of these vendors, is to say, "Come and be a green dot on my store and wait for everything to rez and hunt around among all the vendors and be confused for awhile and read all my notecards, then select a re-seller vendor that you have to pay an upfront price for, go back to your own venue, and try to get it working."
But, what others do is better. You IM them and they simply send you a vendor to your inventory -- it's free because they have a device to take out 80 percent of every sale price and leave you 20 percent. Works great. Better yet, they come and simply set it up on your lot and sell it to you on the spot in place. Or, if they don't have this type of commission plan, but you just want their content, they join your group and leave out their vendor for people to buy stuff.
