Infiniview Merit posted a link to Content Paradise, who are giving away free copies of Poser 5 until September 8. It got me thinking again about all the free stuff that's around to use, and I don't think these links can be repeated too often.
Animations: Poser 5 allows you to make and upload animations to SL, as does Avimator, which is an open source animation maker.
Sounds: I never stop telling people about the wonderful Freesound project, which has hundreds of sounds which are issued under a Creative Commons licence, free to use as long as you credit the original uploader.
Audacity is a free program for recording and editing sounds.
Textures: There are loads of free texture sites. Here are some of the ones I have used: Mayang's free textures, lots of photographic but mostly non-tiling textures. The USDA has a great free photolibrary which includes lots of agricultural stuff. Lots of free stuff on 3D Cafe. Lots of free graphical textures here at absolute cross. Free photographs at image after. Textures and all sorts of free stuff at cygad net.
Graphics programs: GIMP is the best-known free program. Daz is allowing free download of Bryce 5.0 until tomorrow.
If you have good free resources, add them to the list by making a comment, or dropping them on me in world.

1. Thanks for the links, Caliandris. Definitely good stuff. :)
