All passwords reset
Linden Lab announce on their blog that the reason for forcing everyone to change is an exploit that allowed access to their database ... but it has been known for some time that using the same log in for the forums and the platform created a possible problem.
So if you have something in world that you need to get to, ensure that you leave enough time for resetting the password and getting the email from LL to reset, waiting ten minutes for the page to load and resetting.

(Page 1)2. Your comments: Good and bad will come of this...
Good (possibly): people with illegitimate email addresses won't be able to return.
Bad (very): people with legitimate email addresses, but who forgot their security question (for example, if you write down your password somewhere IRL and safe, why would you ever assume you'd need the security question)... what happens to them? I have at least one good friend that this has happened to so far.

3. Your friend can always call up Linden Lab and provide all required identification, so nothing is lost :)
Actually, I'd avoid doing it *today*, though. The lines are busy, the Lindens are overworkd and tired, and you'll be way angry to get in-world.
Lesson learned: take your account very, very seriously.

4. What about non US residents or people without credit card verification?
How can they get back in world?
