1. Apparently, whatever Linden Labs did to deal with this problem earlier wasn't effective. They just finished shutting down all scripts on the entire grid, then disabling logins.

I look forward to getting some insight shortly from LL regarding what is going on and how it is getting past their safeguards. Obviously we are in for some new "corrective" patches and changes in order to control whatever new method is being used. And I sincerely hope that whatever they do to deal with the problem doesn't break a million *good* things in the world.

2. I wonder what the object was... also, I always miss these things, though in this case missing it was proably for the best.

I'd say the best way would be to put a limit on max times similarly named items can spawn under one owner, but that'd just lead to polymorphic names/dimensions/images/etc. Trying to stop this without breaking good things seems kind of difficult.

3. The object was created by the avatar Niglet Gasser, who I saw hanging out with the W-HAT griefer group Voted 5 last night. He's a few days old alt, probably of one of the banned ones.

Variations of racism, plays on the word "nigger," etc. are one of the typical M.O.'s of W-HAT. For example, in their defacing efforts on the effigy of my RL head, they've now made the bust black, with large lips, etc. They always have the same obsessions.

Niglet methodically joined my group Ravenglass Rentals, which is on open for convenience of tenants, and then set about leaving these invisible replicating prims all over hundreds of lots everywhere, set to the group so they didn't autoreturn. I found them still there today when I logged on -- I knew there was trouble when I saw wierd messages like "Japanese Grotto Splashable Water has a message for you. Log on to get it." When those inanimate objects start talking, it's because of sim overload and them being pushed back into lost and found or something like that, I guess.

He griefed a number of areas where they have constantly attacked over and over again, on different alts.

Linden Lab needs to freeze log-ons for this whole group, which is all griefers, all documented, all related to these crashes. If they can muster the political will to do that, they'll see a dramatic change in the pattern of grid crashings.

4. This is really interesting for me. I signed up for my first ever SL account about a week or two ago, and it has been a really sh*tty experience for me.

Is this the way that it always is? I've been putting a lot of it down to my crappy ADSL connection, but maybe it's just SL being poor at the moment?

5. Open signups without verification = more attacks from the outside. I believe that Second Life has shown to be very very fragile. In RL people get in trouble for vandalism, but in a world like Second Life, your worst punishment seems to be the termination of your FREE account. Since everyone is allowed to have an unlimited amount of alts, isn't Linden Lab just begging for trouble?
