On October 15-16, The United Nations with the help of Aimee Weber Studio will be taking the global war on poverty to an unprecedented front ... the virtual world. Second Life residents will be able to Stand Up and be counted as supporter of the Millennium Development Goals and help abolish extreme poverty around the world. It all started on September 2000 at the United Nations Millennium Summit when almost every country in the world agreed to complete eight time-bound goals that would eradicate extreme poverty across the planet. In October 2002, the Millennium Campaign was launched to hold those nations accountable for their commitments.
The premise is simple: "We are the first generation that can put an end to extreme poverty around the world, and we refuse to miss this opportunity!"
The actual Millennium Development Goals themselves are hardly unreasonable...
1: Eradicate Extreme Hunger and Poverty
2: Achieve Universal Primary Education
3: Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women
4: Reduce Child Mortality
5: Improve Maternal Health
6: Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other diseases
7: Ensure Environmental Sustainability
8: Develop a Global Partnership for Development
And that brings us up to date to our current Millennium Challenge, known as Stand Up, to set an official Guinness World Record for the greatest number of people ever to Stand Up Against Poverty and for the Millennium Development Goals. The purpose of the action is to raise awareness of the Millennium Development Goals and to publicly demonstrate to policymakers the growing global support for the eradication of poverty.
Second Life Residents are cordially invited to participate!

To be counted in this historic endeavor, all you have to do is locate a "Stand Up" kiosk and obtain a free wrist band. There are nearly a hundred Kiosks around the grid already, including in the central plaza of Midnight City. On October 15-16, click on the wrist band to assume the "stand up" pose and register yourself as a supporter of the Millennium Development Goals. Your participation will be recorded and included in the final count for the Guinness World Record. Our contribution will make a thunderous statement to policymakers everywhere.
You want to do more? Contact Aimee Weber or Iumi Cline in-world, or e-mail Aimee and request a Stand Up Kiosk to host on your own land. You can also start your own campaign to spread the word and even host a Stand-Up party on October 15 or 16th. The more participants, the louder our voices!
