4. The first piece of proactive damage control you generally need in SL for philanthropic endeavours is silence and secrecy.

Doing good works in secret evades a lot of wasteful drama. Alas, only a small subset of philanthropy can be done that way.

And some people exude malice and false intent in everything they do like harass other people by taking their real-life picture and making a bust and humiliating them in SL. For example. No amount of good works can remove the indelible evil from one's soul.

6. I think what Joshua is doing is a very giving act. Regardless of our usualy relationship ad its vitriolic nature, I fully support Joshua's charity.

Prok is right in a way though - but her comment about always exuding malice and false intent is completely self analytical.

So...is this a dinky little store? or? A big content killer must-have item in SL? Will he make um....$US 4.17 and then whooop give it to charity or...US $67.39?

Charity is undertaken most of the time in Second Life for only one reason: enhancing an avatar's reputation to help them in the long haul to sell their prodcts or if nothing else, to sell their persona itself so they have political and social influence.

The humor was lost on you.

I apologised to you once for my action toward you in that regard. Your incessant harping on the subject, and unprovoked-ly stalking the people I'm friends with to ridicule and belittle me (which I incidentally AR'd you for), really makes you look foolish.

What have you done to better anything, Prokofy, that makes you not only a guru on the subject and motives of others, but also correct in judging anything? Your ranting here is very similar to the complaints you had for the resident-supported cancer benefit, as well.

I understand that you don't like me, but please don't project your own malicious issues and ill-motives onto me.

12. The need to pigeon-hole people people into one-dimensional roles of good and evil is tiresome. Whatever so-called controversy Joshua has generated within SL is born of his passion for the place. While I don't agree with the manner which he often chooses to express himself, I recognize and can identify with the frustration which motivates his commentary. When so many choose to distance themselves from anything other than their own sweet self, this young man involves himself with great intensity. That he cares about social issues provides a balance, imo. Being self absorbed is an identifying factor of youth yet in spite of his years, Josh stops to find possible avenues in which to contribute. I find this refreshing and uncommon in general but especially in someone so young.

I support him and find him to be is worth my time and attention.

13. This was the most interesting comment thread I've read in a long time. Although I usually agree with Prokofy, in this thread I do not. Prokofy, if you were Joshua and wanted to do good by selling items to raise money for charities, how would you go about it in a way that doesn't help yourself? You need people to know the message or you don't do much good. However, if people know you claim that he's getting advertising to help himself in the future. Why don't you offer some plausible/possible, REALISTIC, viable solution to Joshua. I feel that his action in 'proactive damage control' leans towards 'good.' Everyone is obsessed with good and evil, what's wrong with grey? There is no balance in society right now, it's leaning towards selfishness not altruism. This is an act that helps restore balance.

14. I wonder if the profits from SL sales are being reported to the tax folks.

Regardless, if there was an tax reduction possible by claiming a donation, the amount saved on taxes could have been donated to the charity as well, instead of being left in the hands of the government.
