Possible uses: 1) Lets you contact someone via their cell phone no matter which alt they are signed as, and without knowing who they are signed in as. 2) Does it work between grids, such as between the teen grid and the adult grid, or between test grids? 3) Maybe you can put someone in your cell phone's address book for easy dialing, even though you don't want to make them a friend. 4) Maybe there is a plan to let you contact people out of world via the cell phone, where you have one way of contacting them whether they are in-world or out of world, and without you knowing their real cell phone #.

3. Orlie, you pose some interesting possibilities- frankly, my first reaction was in line with Jack and Akela's.

But, let's say for a moment that none of Orlie's "possible uses" apply. We have a ton of things in Second Life that are equally non-sensical: people put bathrooms in their virtual homes, with virtual toilets, that virtually flush. How silly is that? In comparison, a virtual phone that virtually calls someone almost sounds reasonable ;)

5. I once suggested, in my favourite SL club, that they hold an occasional 'Show Crap and Tell' competition - everyone brings their latest piece of SL nonsense and explains what the **** they were thinking when they bought/got it. Everyone votes and the winner gets to keep all the submitted crap! (OK, there might be a flaw in this idea)

If they ever start the competition I think this could be a winning item, at least in its beta form - if you ask for the help notecard it says "You are not allowed to view this note". Not very helpful really.

6. Actually there is another "cell phone" provider that is in SL. Nexcom I think is the name (sorry not in world to recheck). They have some intersting functions other then talking. Also must we not forget sometimes things grow with time. Also yes you can talk in IM but if you get creative there are reasons NOT to talk in IM but use a cellphone.

7. i couldnt think of a viable feature this could provide that i would use. when i am at home, my cell phone is turned off, and i dont like the ringer on the land line. when i am in world that is all i want to worry about is another cell phone!!!!!! unless its going to be a voip setup, ther eis no real use for a "cell phone" in SL. all it will do is be another scripted high prim object that causes lag for those around you.

8. Hmm, cell pfones in SL... why does it seem like when in RL I wanto t toss both my cell and house phone either inthe trash can or stuff them in a corner of the couch, chair or in a coat somewher to wher i am not wantingto hear them ring?? Thisis as unlikelyas having the knowledge of having cell phones with the camera features... well, I have to agrree with my sister Alliekat onthis . NOT NESSARY!
