Pete Blackshaw of the ClickZ Network has written his predictions for marketing in 2007. In his list of standard marketing predictions like downloadable video will bring cable TV to its knees, the Wii will give everyone "Tennis Elbow" causing them to rename it "Wii Elbow," and advertisers will subsidize us getting free stuff like WiFi, he also added some doom and gloom for Second Life.
He states, "nearly 70 percent of the business that opened up on Second Life will shutter their doors or just gather cobwebs because they realized they needed to do more than just generate a press release." Is he right? I guess it depends on what corporations do with their islands. If they take NBC's lead and continue to do more and more cross promotion between worlds both Second Life and the corporations will benefit in the long run. If they just setup shop and then never do anything else they will probably close, but will we really miss them?
