I have Monday off work because of Martin Luther King Jr. Day and for the life of me I have no idea how to spend it. New World Notes is encouraging its reader to spend Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Second Life while dawning an Avatar that is either a different race than their real life race or their normal Second Life race (or color). I would like to reiterate that encouragement here.

As those of you who know me in real life already know, I am always a different race in Second Life. This stems mostly from my own frustration from trying to make my avatar look like my real world self. I scanned in pictures of myself and used the skin template and no matter what I did it just didn't look like me. Until, I moved the slider to increase my body fat to the maximum. So, I went on a diet and changed my avatar to what you can see in the image above. Aimee once told me I look like Lenny Kravits, but any similarity is completely unintentional. So, who will I be for Martin Luther King Jr. Day? I'm leaning towards becoming a furry.

Before going live with this post it was was brought to my attention that this could be a controversial or even disrespectful exercise. Tateru pointed me to Moriash Moreau's post on his blog Moriash Moreau: My Second Life. He suggests that the exercise would be borderline racist and disrespectful to the memory of Martin Luther King. While I didn't think of this before, and I don't feel this way, I can see this view point. I want to suggest that if you feel this way you don't just change your appearance from one race to another, but spend some time learning about and embracing a different social group on the Grid.
