As everyone's probably heard recently, eBay is pulling the plug on dealing in virtual goods. Well, that's what the media is saying, but they're not entirely correct. eBay is pulling the plug on dealing in virtual goods that you don't have intellectual property rights over (that is, where you own the intellectual property, or have permission from the owner). That means Second Life goods are exempt. Some from other virtual worlds may be exempt too. A lot will depend on the Terms of Service involved. Your level 52 night elf? No. Your set of jeweled, super-unique swords? No. Your Second Life products? Yes. Your Second Life account? Definitely not.
Linden dollars clearly do not fall under intellectual property, but there is permission from Linden Lab to trade them, so they're sort of borderline by the stated policy, but still okay for trade on eBay.
Of course you can, if you want, point to the fact that Pierre Omidyar, founder of eBay is a major investor in Linden Lab, but really, it's actually far more likely that eBay is just clamping down on the trade of items and currency where that trade is expressly prohibited by the intellectual property owner/service provider.
Whether eBay can actually close down these sales/auctions faster than they go up. Now there is an interesting question.
"Whatever it is ... you can get it on eBay". Except for that level 60 rogue, huh?
