Last week I posted about OpenSim, the open source Second Life server that is available for download now. One of our readers, Ramen Junkie, commented that, "it's been my experience that as neat as these things are they are ridiculously difficult to get running." Well this weekend I spend some time downloading, building, and running the various projects available on the Open Second Life website.
Rest assured Ramen Junkie, running OpenSim is ridiculously easy. If you download it there is a release build in the bin directory. The whole project is C# code, which I personally think is less daunting to the uninitiated programmer. So, if you're interested in the project you should get the code and get involved in the development.

1. Looks like it is easy. Though it crashed on me pretty quickly. I tried to make a shirt which didn't seem to do anything then it crashed me out.
