Don't Techno for an Answer: A.M. Architect at Metaversatility Island
Before you guys send me angry letters, I'm well aware that Techno and Electronica are separate subgenres of music. I went for that merely as a clever title, 'kay? 'kay. At any rate, Metaversatility's Bliargh Dada will be hosting Electronica musicians A.M. Architect tonight at 8 PM at Metavsersatility Island's KRTU Studios.
From the press release: "Bringing a great mixture of progressive electronica styles from Nu Jazz to Lounge and Hip-Hop, we will play their original material, as well as a selection of similar electronica from our favorite artists. Our avatars will be broadcasting from the KRTU complex on Metaversatility island. Come sit in and participate in an evening of discussion, interview, and great electronic music."
SL residents are notorious dancing fiends; shower these guys with your love!
(Thanks, Matt!)

(Page 1)2. Hey Doubledown, those are good questions. This will be a simulcast of a live taping of Matt/Bliargh's radio show, In Limbo Radio, on the radio station KRTU (http://www.krtu.org) tonight.
The musicians will be live in the studio with Matt, who will be logged in to the SL studio to facilitate questions and comments from the SL crowd as well as his usual call-in questions.
I hope this helps you make your decision about attending! Feel free to email me or Matt or drop either of us an IM in world if you have more questions.

3. Hello Doubledown. While your comments on 'live' electronic performance could spawn a conversation that would fill the library of congress, this is a showcase of pre-recorded music by two local electronic artists. I don't believe that I've mislead anyone by posting it under 'live music.' The difficulty is in categorizing something that hasn't been done specifically like this. I'm sure you'll agree that many worthwhile Second Life endeavors fall into this category of being difficult to categorize. The closest cousin to live music is 'entertainment,' and as that seemed inundated with nothing but the scams you are referring to, I decided to list it in a category that would actually serve some purpose.
It certainly isn't my intention to mislead, and I feel that I've not done that in the body of the summary. I'm sorry if you do feel that way, but as I said, this is a continuous learning process. I do, however, hope to engage a virtual audience from around the world in a participatory dialogue about a music genre that I am and they are very fond of.
Again, the debate over the legitimacy of live electronic performance is a point of much contention among fans of the genre. I find it interesting that, if I simply said 'this is live sequencing/sampling/dj'ing you're hearing right now,' anyone not already familiar with A.M. Architect's repertoire wouldn't have much to say as objection.
This case of what I like to call 'the emperor's new 303' is something that not only pervades avante-garde culture anywhere, but particularly live electronic performance. I see blended reality performance as having the potential to wonderfully augment electronic music performance that is now typified by a distinct disconnect between audience and artist, a distinct lack of engagement that I've noticed during some of the many electronic performances I've attended. And blended reality performance is not to be confused with blended reality exhibition, which is what tonight's show shall be.
Having now typed a small novelette in response, I'll also re-assure you that, assuming you're still interested in being part of a hypertextual musical discussion and listening party, that it's not an advertising ploy, and the only repetition you'll hear are the callsigns of my radio station.
You're listening to KRTU FM 91.7, sounds for the metaverse
;)
cheers
4. Ah, one last thing, as you can see on my website
( http://www.boogaloogames.net/inlimbo.html ), the vast majority of my live guests, spanning genres, ages, and tastes, typically *do* perform live In Limbo. This will definitely be an element of future shows, but so will this dialogue-focused show format become standard, assuming it's well received :)
5. I got to talk to Adri Saarinen, and I'm totally cleared up. This is gonna be an excellent event, and I tell they're gonna be bringing in some very cool things.
Yeah, I was confused... I couldn't tell if this was gonna be an interactive event of good music and good people.... or if it was gonna be like Regina Spektors house, where you walk in and can hear her clips and buy her music.
But yeah, I'm all cleared up, and this sounds exciting, I'll see ya all at the show tonight

6. Enjoyed the show. The music was right up my alley. A blend between trip-hop & IDM. That's a hard combo to pull off but they did it well.

7. Ahh, see, this is the sort of follow up comment I love to see! Thanks, Doubledown, for taking the time to leave your thoughts!

1. Do you know if this is a live music performance? Or a live jam amongst the musicians?
Or is this a listening party? Listening to prerecorded tracks and a form of promoting the musicians?
My personal opinion on this, is that I'm getting tired of people luring me in with marketing ploys to get me to get their music. I'd like to hear either live music or a live DJ mix of the music.... but I don't want to just show up to listen to someone's mp3 clips then get spammed with links on where to buy the downloads.
