Having reported on some bad feelings floating around about the media and teaching, let's have a success story for the teachers! Following on from my questions about history in SL we have the intriguing Renaissance Island which brings Tudor England (complete with visits from Henry VIII) to Second Life.
At some level you might think this is just another themed build. At some level it is another themed build, and there are the inevitable themed shops as well. There are some interesting differences though. This place is designed for teaching history in a proper setting, that gives a slightly different feel to the sim to my mind: everything is themed (I was politely dressed, but in a far from Tudor costume and felt uncomfortable even when no one was around). The people I've met there have been, unless there were also visitors, properly dressed and speaking in something that sounds like Tudor English to me.
Prithee, hie thee to the market and relate to me your thoughts messires and mesdames.
