As previously reported Yuri's Night is coming to Second Life. Tomorrow, or today depending on your time zone, 12th April. The event will span the four sims Spaceport Alpha, Spaceport Bravo, Nanotechnology, and Science School. There are a whole slew of events, 12 hours of music, a fashion show, chances to have your photo taken with Yuri Gargarin and more. I'm sure all of these things will go well, but the one that caught my eye as the most unusual was the first musical slot (12 noon tomorrow), where a Scottish Pipe Band gets the event underway.
Being a Brit (although not a Scot) bagpipes always seem traditional, formal and very impressive. Pipe-bands in SL made me blink, sit up and wonder. I spoke briefly to the leader of the band, Lacy McLuhan, who is an expatriate Scot, and runs three Scottish themed sims. Her pipeband consists of eight members, although not all are available at any time, only four can make Yuri's Night, but four pipers should still be impressive enough. The pipeband is available to perform at other events: none of them have any ties to NASA or space in particular, but are happy to be supporting Yuri's Night. Will you be there too?

1. Wow, this is very very cool. I will have to check into it. Thanks for posting on this!
