With Linden Lab's announcement today about the planned age-verification scheme, we're moved to ask: Do you approve? It seems on the face of it to be a placebo measure. After all, there's an age-verification process in place now, and as you have probably seen, it is relatively straightforward to bypass fraudulently, either by obtaining credentials from an adult, or having an adult lie for you. I've seen examples of both inworld over the the last couple of years.
From what we have been told so far, it does not seem that this new system will be any less prone to fraud than the existing system. Plus, it places burdens of effort and costs on the residents. Also, there doesn't appear to be any definitive description about what does and does not constitute adult content which historically tends to force overcaution on the part of self-raters. This is most obvious in the comic and computer games industries.
Perhaps there is some benefit to the system after all, however. What do you think? Thumbs up, or thumbs down?

[UPDATE: Linden Lab tells us that the third-party who will be performing verification is Integrity Services]

1. Without any doubt, yes. So people can not worry about having "cyborg" sex with minors if that cover soon to blow over them. Same deal with Linden Labs from being dragged into another minor cases over again.
Also, I've noticed more more people are acting like kids when LL wasn't checking on sign up anymore.
