Every now and again I write pieces in here about SL helping green things out - less travel and so on - as well as saving cash of course.
Big Blue, IBM if you want to be official, has announced it is putting US$1Billion into saving energy costs for IT hardware. Of course part of that is predicated on saving money - currently annual energy costs are 50% of hardware costs and this is rising year by year - but saving energy helps save the planet from global warming too, or at least reduce the rate of it.
Somewhere buried in the IBM sims is a virtual equivalent to their RL super new data centre called Project Big Green. Call me stupid, but I couldn't find it to give you a slurl, but if you wander around the IBM sims long enough I'm sure you can. We all know IBM is committed to SL, as well as developing its own virtual environment, but it's nice to see some greening up being reflected in here too.

1. I've heard rumours of an interesting eco-game on the Teen Grid sponsored by IBM later this year.
