On Monday IBM released a new training game called Innov8 according to C-Net. Innov8 is described as a video game which enables people to learn internal proceedures for the company by improving both skills with and understanding of those processes. There are, of course, scores to go with this too. Another description is "The SOA for the video game generation." If, like me, you're not up on US business jargon, SOA seems to be "service orientated architecture."
Why am I reporting this here? Well, the article goes on to say that they will roll it out into SL, understandable given the amount of work it appears Big Blue is doing here. It does make one wonder though - is this the first example of a VLE developed offline that is in then deliberately ported into SL? There are tools like sloodle that link Moodle and SL, certainly ports of RL games into SL for teaching purposes, but is this the first full scale official port if it comes to pass?
Thanks to Vidorah for passing the story along.
