The iCommons summit will run from 15th to 17th of June, in Dubronvic, and on Annenberg Island in SL (those with keen memories may remember a previous story about Annenberg and the USC Center on Public Diplomacy).
If, like me before researching this story, you're not quite sure what the iCommons summit looks at, you can find full details of this year's conference and reports about last year's on their website. In summary, to save you the reading, it is a group that looks at the future of the free internet (where users create content rather than having big business give them content), and this year's speakers include:
- Larry Lessig, Creative Common's CEO
- Joi Ito, of Creative Common's Chairperson
- Jimmy Wales, founder of wikipedia
- Cory Ondrejka, aka Cory Linden
- Lawrence Liang, commentator on piracy
- Becky Hogge, Open Rights Group
- Benjamin Mako, MIT
