ABC Island manager, Abi Goldflake has endeavored to set the record straight about the problem with ABC Island last month. It was, as we reported a server problem, and not vandalism (as was widely reported through the media).
Granted, we initially went with griefed, because that's what the mainstream media said, but it only took a short investigation to get to the bottom of things, and we acknowledged it for what it was: a server issue. Nobody else picked up on that though. Vandalism is ever so much more juicy, isn't it?
Abi Goldflake's announcement in full:
We've now investigated the 'griefing' episode on ABC Island on 22 May and I'd like to set the record straight for all. It was definitely not a deliberate act of vandalism but a server error caused by the island crashing during a routine back-up. Linden Labs restored the island through a rollback a few hours after we requested it. Despite some inaccurate stories in the press, there was no cost or long-term damage to the ABC Island. We're v grateful for the strong community response and help that day.
(If you've not been following along with the bouncing ball, ABC is Australian Broadcasting Corporation - not the American ABC)

1. Actually, it was pretty obvious from the start that it wasn't vandalism. A little detail about that being impossible. Most went with the idea that someone with landowner privs screwed up... that being the usual answer to these things.
As to it being a server error? How could you know... there's not a snowball in hell's chance that LL would ever admit it if it was.
