Since the sudden reversal in Linden Lab's governance policy in Second Life, there's been quite an outcry from the Second Life residents. It's easy to find people who are against the changes - and quite difficult to find anyone who is in favor of them.
Protest groups have sprung up all over. Mostly under the umbrella of the newly formed United Protest group. In numbers terms, protesting these policies is rapidly becoming one of the most popular activities in Second Life. Shopping for a peaceful protest group that suits you? We've got a round up of your options.
- BDSM Is Safe - BDSM Is Not Abuse
1087 members
"Join the group to show your support for BDSM in SL and ensure it's survives here under the latest "offensive material" crack-down. BDSM is not wrong, and has a place in RL and SL. This group is promoting the rights of adults who consent to play with adults freely by choice. We do not condone anything involving minors!"
- I am for a FREE Second Life
901 members
"This group stands for RESPECT, TOLERANCE and FREEDOM. This is a PEACEFUL protest for a censorfree SL, please refer to the poster and initial notecard for more information or come to the United Support InfoCenter."
- National Coalition for Sexual Freedom
112 Members
"The National Coalition for Sexual Freedom is an organization committed to creating a political, legal, and social environment in the United States that advances equal rights of consenting adults who practice forms of alternative sexual expression. NCSF is primarily focused on the rights of consenting adults in the SM-leather-fetish, bdsm, swing, and polyamory communities, who often face discrimination because of their sexual expression. - First they came for...
90 members
"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_they_came... First they came for the ageplayers, & I didn't speak up, cuz I wasn't ageplaying. Then they came for the rape roleplayers, & I didn't speak up, cuz I wasn't roleplaying. Then they came for the furries, & I didn't speak up, cuz I wasn't furry. Then they came for the Goreans, the combat players, the BDSMers, the necros, the vampires, the gangsters, & I didn't speak up... Then they came for me, & there was no one left to speak up for me."
- United Protest
15 members
"Only creators of groups that stand up for freedom of action, speech and responsible adult engagement in SL are in this group to cooperate and collaborate, exchange ideas and actions so the voices of the members of all protest groups may become one big clamor."
- The Broadly Offensive
12 members
"Only one purpose for this group: to encourage SL residents to cease making abuse reports to LL, and to cease the participation in anything that can be later falsely construed to be part of determining what is "broadly offensive". While anyone can determine what is narrowly attractive, determining what is "broadly offensive" cannot be legitimately done in a virtual world. Do Good by Doing Jack! Don't Report! Speak No Evil!"
- Moral Majority
10 members
"Join The Moral Majority Group! Help keep SecondLife Free of Censorship. Let's keep SecondLife not only Safe Together, but tolerant, together. After all, only the Moral Majority can do that - right? "
- Residents agianist[sic] censorship
9 members
"Once they start, its going to snowball. Today it might not be you, but tomorrow it may. Take your stand to protect this fantasy world you have created for yourself. We don't want a world where anyone can report someone for doing anything they don't agree with. Race, gender, fetishes, homosexuality . The make SL Safe practice is a joke. We created this world if we don't like area's we won't visit them agian or TP away. Simple as that!"
- Offensive Broads
4 members
"For the Broadly Offensive, and those who love them. Adults portraying adults, on an adults only grid, don't deserve to live in fear of censorship or banning."

Did we miss your group for protesting these changes? Let us know!
"We're the Moral Majority--We're holier than thou,
By God we're here to tell you what we will and won't allow,
We're here to purge this nation of its humanistic bent,
A separate Church and State we've simply given up for Lent."

1. Heh. Well, Moral Majority is more of a tongue in cheek joke. The idea is that the group will vote on issues and be able to say, "the Moral Majority Decided..."
Moral Majority isn't a protest group. It is a subversive group that can outlast the present issues. I'd love to hear the Moral Majority growing into its own entity and weighing in on things. That would take a lot more than how it started... but it certainly is catchy. :-)
Remember, the Moral Majority said so. ;-)
