Second Lives is a hard book for me to review. The book itself is easy and fun to read, and has a number of excellent sections. Any educators worrying about access compliance should read this, particularly the sections about Live2Give, Wilde and Lilone and their RL counterparts just to see how it can be managed. For me the Second Life elements read like a trip down memory lane, which is always nice as well. The elements about activities in other virtual worlds (Eve Online, EverQuest, WOW and others get a mention) make interesting reading too, even though I've never tried any of them.
The parallels with Tim's Real Life are inevitable, and that's where I start to get confused. In one chapter Tim and his long term partner separate. In the next Tim and girlfriend are furniture shopping together in Ikea, then furniture shopping together in SL. New gf? The one he's just split up from, but this is before that? I'm just not sure.
I'm not a fan of biographies most of the time to be honest, but I found this quite a page turner.
It is available from all good booksellers from today, 10th June.
