1. Really, SLCC is only music to me. Largely, SL itself is only music to me.

The other stuff is frosting, but the musicians are the only reason to come. If Cylindrian, Frogge, and Jaycatt cancel, then I will definitely want my money back. As for meeting up with friends ... I'm a live music person, that is really all I do. If the live musicians aren't there, then my friends won't be there ...

That being said, I hope and expect that this copyright release form business gets settled in a way that satisfies everyone. I'm looking forward to hearing good news on this front.

I definitely recommend that everyone take a deep breath and stop with the panic.

3. The agreement between Phreak Radio and SLCC organizers was not in the spirit of new media and should be reconsidered because its simply unprecedented.

I personally will attend regardless of what the musicians do. However, I fully intend to audio and video podcast from the event.

If Phreak Radio or the SLCC organizers want to escort me or anyone else off the premises for doing so, so be it.

5. I was fence-sitting, but the music made it a net positive before. With this, and their obvious internal corruption (follow the money and personal connections from the SLCC organizers to Phreak Media to the CDs/DVDs they're going to make from it), no thanks. I get enough contact with sleazy business creeps during my day job.

7. It is really pathetic to see this happen. I have booked bands and staged rallies and concerts for years. If I had presented any of my performers with such a contract.. ESPECIALLY after engaging them to invest in travel expenses paid out of their own pocket BEFORE presenting them with a contract that absolutely raped them of all rights to their copyrighted material and extended my right to use, copy and distribute THEIR copyrighted material and their performance in any way that I chose for as long as I chose to do so without any compensation to the artist whatsoever, I would be tarred, feathered, hanged, shot, drowned, burned, drawn and quartered and pickled in urine. And rightfully so. The actions taken by Phreak Media are nothing short of moronic. I have to say that booking yourself for a gig that is too cheap to pay your travel expenses in the first place is not so bright either. All I can say is that it's a damn good thing this isn't a bike rally.

8. As some of you may know, I am one of the performers that will be playing at SLCC. Like many others, particularly Kei and Kaklick, I have been working with Nethermind and the folks at The Future United and Phreak Media to get this matter resolved in a way that would be acceptable to everyone.

I have had the opportunity to review the final version of the performer release form (see http://www.slnn.com/index.php/article.html)and find it perfectly acceptable. In fact, it
is much better than I anticipated it would be. Using CC's attrib-no
deriv license (see http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd/3.0/) was
an excellent idea. Astrin is entirely correct in his statement that it sets a wonderful precedent for OUR community convention.

I am saddened, however, that some of the selected performers chose not to wait for the final version and instead elected to cancel their performances. I am publically requesting that they be allowed the opportunity to reconsider their decisions as I, for one, would enjoy the chance to see them perform at SLCC as originally contemplated.

As for myself, I look forward to having the opportunity to perform my own SL parodies for all of you, whether you be physically or virtually in Chicago.
