I just got sent this blogpost. Go read it, then come back. Okay, did you catch any actual definition of bestiality? Here, I'll give you one: Sexual relations between a human and an animal. That one applies, because it's the point of the referring post. Now, I'm going to go ahead and presume that one of the reasons bestiality is illegal and immoral in RL is because of the nonconsensuality of the act; it is possible to have forced sex with an animal. It is not possible for an animal to grant consent to sex with a human. No matter how good you are at reading your dog, you cannot prove that it wants to have sex with you. It may be in heat, but that's a distinctionless urge: the animal just wants relief from whatever source will provide it.
In SL, even a resident with an extremely realistic animal avatar is still a human being playing as an animal. This is not bestiality; there's no beast there. What goes on between two humans acting consensually is their business, not yours, sir or madam, and it is this consensuality that frequently gets left out of the conversation when people begin making legislation to 'protect the innocent'. Banning bestiality in SL is fine, folks -- just make sure you've found it before you ban it.

1. I'm very concerned about the possibility of unsupervised pets logging on to Second Life and engaging in virtual sexual conduct with humans. I've read reports stating that your best friend on the Internet could be a dog, and no one would know it. I've also witnessed first-hand evidence of cats posting ungrammatical, lewd, and often hilarious captioned images to Internet forums.
What is Linden Lab doing to address this dire and pressing concern??
