1. Some pople are bored in second life. Some prople are bored in their first lives too. That is ok, their problem. If some place offers nothing interesting to the individual, that might mean it is a boring place. Or it is a boring individual.

2. I've spent considerable time in Singapore - having family there - and yes, the top two on the list are considered to be the national past times. The other three, in my experience anyway, seem to be what Singaporeans believe foreigners come to Singapore for (apart from the shopping and eating that is). I know that whenever I visit and I meet someone new I'm usually asked if I've visited Sentosa (yes) or eaten Durian (also yes - in fact my all-time favourite fruit plus it doubles as a melee weapon). As for the night safaris, Singaporeans are very proud of their zoo, and rightly so. Maybe the items on the list are an insight into the Singaporean psyche. Maybe this is what the good life is about to them...that and making bucketloads of money, telling off-colour jokes about Malaysians (and occasionally Indonesians) and driving really, really madly at ludicrous speeds. Personally, I love the place.

4. claiming SL is boring makes it sound like either the author has no personal in depth experience in SL and is just repeating some news/blogosphere meme, or that it was a very personal view of SL that isn't shared widelly among most SLers (at least the ones like the ones I know)

5. Hi there, thanks for linking to my blog and some interesting comments here. I logged on to 2nd life for 1 hour and got so bored I never went back in. So you are right that I have not spent enough time on Second Life although I know people who are starting businesses in Second Life like First Meta the Second Life bank.

Personally, I'm more of a MMORPG person like WoW and Sword of the New World a.k.a Granado Espada. Anyways, skribe in his comments did a nice explanation on why I listed those 5 things a quick and dirty list of what you can do in Singapore and obviously you can't do many of those things in Second Life which is why I pointed to the potential failure in execution - the Singapore government must think through carefully how they wanna implement this.

Anyways, Dentsu Japan plans to do a Virtual Tokyo with financial districts, etc, and I heard the Aussies are planning something soon too, as with many other countries I assume.

Interesting to see how Second Life will develop even with the not so ideal interface and inability to accomodate large numbers in one event.

Maybe Second Life might become so interesting I might give it another try! At least Linden Lab is trying hard!

11. SL is a social/creative place. Spending an hour just looking around and expecting some NPC to hand out a make-work quest like WoW is a bit like going to a nightclub, slouching against a wall, and complaining there's nothing to do.

I've heard it called a 'feminine MMO'....

I have played sl for over 2 years from 10am till 2 in the morning m-f - i dont find it boring at all - you must have a borning rl if you cant find any interest in this game it has everything possible rl offers and more. guess its just like anything in life its what you put into it that you cna get out of it. I LOVE IT MYSELf and all that i have met and become frinds with there.
