After a long period of peaking in the high 40 thousands, and looking like growth had stalled or grid capacity had maxed out, today saw concurrency reach record highs. The login concurrency passed 50,000 at 1:25PM SLT (US Pacific) and remained above 50,000 until approximately 2:10PM.
The previous record concurrency was 48,683 which took place at 2PM yesterday. Concurrency peaked at 50,528 at 1:45PM before beginning to fall.
2. Well, the grid performed quite smoothly today, which is a surprise. It's folded up at much, much lower loads than this.

3. I agree that performance is relatively good considering and obviously it depends on what you're doing. However, I was certainly experiencing problems when building (unless it was my brain maxing out). Do you use metrics or some kind of census when you work out how the grid is performing?

4. Partly metrics - partly the quantity and nature of problem reports that I get sent. When the grid is running smoothly, there are few. When things start to go off the rails, I receive dozens or hundreds.

5. It's good that you keep track of these stats here. It doesn't seem that long since the 40k-mark was passed (checking back it was early May). Perhaps growth has slowed - but it was a bit out of control for a while I recall.
I think the concurrency figure is the great indicator of how things are travelling, rather than the 'total residents signed up' figure (I notice that the SL web homepage has recently discarded that 'total signed up' and only shows "Online Now" and "US$ Spent Last 24h").
So 'yay for 50k' I guess is what I'm saying!
