I'm sad enough to have the change log of sl-jira on rss. Just occasionally you get a gem come though. If I'm reading this properly, in a soon to come release, we'll be able to choose to go back to something like the pre-voice history/friends/IM windows.
A while ago Tateru posted this piece about the new window. It's not yet clear what the new set up will look like, but hopefully we'll get something that lets us have a wide, thin IM window again and start to communicate smoothly once more. But, now we've had a while to get used to it, will you change back? I know I will, but how about you? Just Askin'
Change to communicate window coming?

I'd go back any time. In fact I was there all the time because my viewer build has the old separated friends, group and IM window (with the "New IM" tab).
Btw, most likely the Linden solution will be that you can undock the friends/group window from the IM window (as with "Near Me"). But this has not been part of the release candidate yet, so if they take the idea of RCs and stable releases seriously, it won't be in the next release.

3. The communicate window is one of the worst UI blunders LL has made. I run a widescreen monitor and the entire app still feels cluttered.

4. Sometimes, I feel like I am the only one in SL who likes the new window... Guess I won't change back, I got used to and started liking the new window within minutes.

5. I've actually easily managed to setup my gui so it is just about as good as it was (with the exception of the individual window for the friends and groups list, which I don't really miss all that much)
but perhaps I indeed got so used to the gui that I forgot how much different the old one was....dunnno...

6. I don't know if I'll go back. But I appreciate the opportunity to try both of them and then choose.
Actually, only thing I don't like with this window is its minimum size.

7. Nicholaz, can I clone you, and get your clone to write mac variations as fast as you write PC ones? A mac client with the old style friends, history and IM windows, mmm, please! Whilst I'm on the wish list, an SL client that actually uses the Mac GUI guidelines and menu systems properly would be nice too!
Tigro, I can't get my old format - I used to use a wide but very thin IM window, about 5/6 lines deep and most of the width of the screen. Now I'm lucky to get it down to 10 lines deep, which just chews too much off the top of the screen. (The extra white space on the history window is just silly but there you go, I can live with that), but I agree it's a matter of taste completely.
I'm all for choice Yakumo. I'd love to know how you lay your work out with the new window, but giving us more choices about how to customise our work space is a good thing, I think we're both agreed on that?
Forcing changes that we don't want, and a fair number of us don't like, not a smart move, whether it's LL or anyone else.

8. I immediatly change it back, offcourse...
When i IM with someone i often detach the window and stretch it to my liking, but when i'm done i close the window and when i want to IM again, some minutes later, it has re-attached itself again!
I often find myself stretching the friends and group tabs and stretch it back so i can read my IMs again without having to stretch them again.
What was the good thing of the present communicate window again?
9. @Eloise: Yes, choices are always good. I don't mind at all what interface others use as long as I can keep the current, and even if I couldn't, I would still bow to the majority.
Still, the question only was "Would you change", so I didn't thought about if they should implement this choice, but only how it would affect me if they would implement it.
And somehow, the confirmation e-mail for comments never comes with a password for me...

10.
Eloise, There are people who are working on Mac versions and I guess if someone has something distributable, I'll put a link on the blog. And of course I'll get a Mac from the Lindens. It just hasn't arrived yet and then there will probably be a steep learning curve before the first Nicholaz Edition for Mac.

11. pl, I've tested and indeed the window won't allow shriking to less than about 5 lines :/
the good thing is I usually like to have it with way more lines than that :P

12. I for one am annoyed. I have been using 1.18.0.6 all this time simply BECAUSE the new "communicate window enhanced" viewers are so bloody hard to use (with their reverse dialog sorting, etc). Now after today's update, I'm FORCED to change over to the "voice enhanced" client.. and I frankly hate it. There was a hack available to allow resizing of the communicate window, but I've lost the link to it.
