Prim Perfect Magazine

SL's newest magazine, Prim Perfect, revolves around building and managing your SL home, apartment, skybox, what have you. This is a welcome addition to the pantheon of periodicals currently available, most of which concern themselves with covering events, fashion, and relationships.

The official launch of Prim Perfect will take place on May 1st, with a reception on Venice Island. The first issue will be free, with each succeeding issue to be 10L. You can get more information at their website, and read their blog here. Welcome, PP!

AvaStar launches

A new Second Life centric magazine has hit the news stand. This one is published by Axel Springer the same publisher as BILD magazine. BILD is a tabloid newspaper and you can find it online here. The first issue of the AvaStar is available now as a PDF download. Future issues however will cost you L$150, a certain departure from the free pricing of similar magazines. The magazine is available on their website and on their island, which was built by our own Aimee Weber.

I don't really like the idea of paying for things that I can get from other places for free. However, we will have to wait to see if the quality of their content makes up for the price. Considering that we are talking about a $0.50 USD price tag, I am sure many people will be willing to give it a try at least once. If this magazine catches on we can expect to see other magazines taking the plunge into virtual publishing.

PixelPulse Magazine, Issue 2

The second issue of PixelPulse magazine has finally arrived, reasonably (and cheekily) priced at 69L. I've always liked this magazine, with its slick production values and well-written articles. It's been far too long since their last offering, so I'm happy to see that it's still around!

(Thanks, Cheri!)

Massive Magazine debut issue on news stands

The slightly less main stream magazine Computer Games is in my opinion the best PC game magazine going in the United States (I do like the UK import magazine Edge a bit more). They have just spun off a new quarterly publication, Massive Magazine. Massive is dedicated to coverage of Massively Multiplayer Online Games. Considering my interest in the topic, I must say I was really excited when I finally saw a copy at my local Borders Books. The magazine is actually quite well done with articles from industry insiders Raph Koster, Richard A. Bartle, Richard Garriot, Brad McQuaid, Nick Yee, and even 3PointD's Mark Wallace.

My only gripe is that most of the coverage is dedicated so completely on MMOGs that Virtual Worlds are all but ignored. There is a small discussion of Second Life on page 56, or I should say a paragraph on Second Life on page 56. Does this make the magazine not worth reading for the dedicated Second Life resident? In a word, NO. For me this magazine stands up with Computer Games as the top magazine in its Genre and certainly a good time waster during Grid downtime.

Business magazine to launch in world

SL Business

Following in the footsteps of Second Style Magazine, the SLExchange is releasing its own magazine called SL Business. Unfortunately this one isn't going to be full of pictures of smoking hot avatars in swanky outfits. I mean Just because my Av is packing a little extra junk in the trunk doesn't mean it isn't beautiful. Anyway, SL Business is billing itself as the premiere virtual branding magazine. As I can't think of another one I suppose they are right. There isn't tons of information available about it yet, but the media kit they have put together says they are going to be a centralized place were we can go to get all our Second Life business related news and they are covering a huge laundry list of topics. Including the requisite and popular fashion, law, music, investing, contests, and lots more.

All this at the low low price of L$0 or FREE USD. Also, if you're looking for an opportunity to advertise in this new magazine ads start at L$750 for a quarter page. The first issue is coming out on August 1st, so if you want to get your ad in this issue you better hurry.
