Doppelganger Studios, creators of The Music Lounge, have come to the conclusion that simulating RL environments from cities such as New York, Paris, and Tokyo might be the key to introduce advertising to its teen audience. The reasoning appears to be that teens are used to seeing advertising in RL, so seeing it in a virtual world that closely resembles RL will make advertising more palatable.The article goes on to talk about SL, noting its 'haphazard patchwork of individual plots'. Presumably, lack of consistent urban planning is a detriment to effective advertising. Those of you who own your own sims or parcels: Would you put up a billboard advertising a RL brand if given enough money? Is such a model an inevitability? How long will SL remain blissfully ad-free?
