What Would You do With a Hundred Thousand Lindens?

A funny thing happened to Gordon Wendt on his way through Midnight City. He won $L100,000.

To help promote the soft release of their interactive in-world news kiosks, PR Newswire (full disclosure, they are a client of Aimee Weber Studio) is giving away four prizes of $L100,000 each (one of which was claimed by Gordon yesterday). For the next few weeks, a codeword will be embedded in some random press release at some random day or time.

A game of chance for a prize

The UK's 2005 Gambling Act comes into full force this September, with direct impact on many MMOs and Virtual Worlds who serve citizens of the UK.

"In September the remaining provisions of the Gambling Act 2005 will finally come into force. Its main purpose is to update the law on gambling, which in some cases is over 50 years old and is therefore inadequate for the modern world," Campbell Hooper's Alex Chapman told GamesIndustry.biz.

"This is because the new law creates a new single definition for 'Gambling', which includes playing a game of chance for a prize, and makes it a criminal offence to provide facilities for gambling without having and complying with an operators licence," explained Chapman. (our emphasis)

A Benefit for Hyasynth

There's something that never seems to make the cut when SL gets coverage: the generosity of its residents. I've posted here before about in-world events to help people in need, and this is another. Hyasinth Tiramisu needs help to pay for some important medical tests that her insurance won't cover. You may not know Hyasynth, but that's okay, every little bit helps.

Mercurious Monde is hosting this event on Saturday, October 14th, 6 PM, at Stardust. There will be prizes donated by Fallingwater Cellardoor, Baccara Rhodes and Mash Mandala, Chrystin Hathor, Jessica Ornitz, and many more. There will also be a Best Party Photo contest, with the prize being a limited edition outfit by Hyasynth herself. Tateru Nino tells me that most of the clothing she wears is made by Hyasynth, so you know the kind of quality she creates. There will also be dancing all night with DJ MagicJustSue Kojima.

SL's main strength has always been the strength of its people. We've seen some amazing things happen when residents get together to orgainze. Let's continue this trend and come out in support for one of our own.

(Thanks, Tateru!)
