Fashion quad closed for several days

You'll have to wait a few days to get your fashion fix from the quad. Canimal Zephyr, Ginny Talamasca, Elikapeka Tiramisu, and Starley Thereian recently announced that they have closed their islands for several days, citing personal reasons. The islands affected are Canimal, Dazzle, ETD Isle, and Celestial City.

The announcements all came in at the same time, so I hope that everything is okay. They have asked that you respect their decision. Come back to us soon, guys.

Last Call Sale 5/30 - 6/6

When Dazzle Haute Couture was around, I practically lived there. Then I had to wait forever just to get a glimpse at Ginny Talamasca's new store, Last Call. When it came back, it was glorious. There were skins, clothing, shoes, and even an expanded line of mens wear.

Each new clothing release was themed, with at least five new outfits for that theme, ranging from casual to glamorous. Now over 70 of those outfits are going on sale for the low price of just 100L. Even the Deviant Nation skins are on sale for 500L. After the sale, these items will be purged from her inventory forever.

As the phrase, "out with the old, in with the new" goes, I'm hoping that even MORE new releases are on their way. One can dream, can't they? The sale takes place from May 30th to June 6th, so don't miss it! You can find it at the Dazzle sim

Scavenger Hunt: Panache & Dazzle/Canimal/Celestial/ETD

Valentines Day has long stood for gifts and romance, but in Second Life, it takes on a whole new meaning: FREEBIES! Two sets of fashion houses in Second Life are holding HUGE scavenger hunts. Of course, Second Life Insiders get the scoop here.

The first one is held by Hosequeen McLean and Zyrra Falcone, of Panache. It is open to everyone, so you don't need to be a member of their group to participate. The object is to find 11 hearts hidden around their island. Inside these hearts is an insane amount of awesome goodies, such as skin, hair, clothes, and shoes. Their hunt ends at Midnight, so don't wait!

The second one is being held by "The Quad", which consists of ETD, Canimal, Celestial Studios, and Last Call. Please note that you must be a part of one of these groups to participate, but they're all open enrollment. There are three times when you can participate, but you can only win a prize once. You must complete the scavenger hunt in order and there will be different clues each time.

  • 02/14/07 10 AM PST (Euro Friendly) *Kicks off on ETD*
  • 02/14/07 3 PM PST *Kicks off on Celestial City*
  • 02/14/07 7 PM PST *Kicks off on Dazzle*

Resident Snapshot: Madison Carnot and Corey Akula

This is the seventeenth in a series of mini-interviews with the residents of Second Life. For the most part, I'll try to leave the responses unedited, except where editing will grant greater clarity.

This one, however, is a bit different. Madison Carnot and Corey Akula are a couple in SL who took advantage of my offer to cover just about anything. I'd have found them sooner or later anyway, as they run a non-SL-related podcast called Bucket ("all other shows 'pail' in comparison"), which has an in-world home at Bucket Beach. That's slightly beyond the scope of this blog, or at least this particular post, but it's worth mentioning. Thanks, Corey and Madison!

Your SL names?: Corey Akula and Madison Carnot, hosts of BUCKET (www.BUCKETpodcast.com), owners of BUCKET Beach and CUBO! at Podshow Island in Second Life.

How did you first come to SL?:

COREY: We both tried out SL over a year ago, but really got involved in the game in April as a huge wave of podcasters came into the game, encouraged by Daily Source Code host (and former MTV VJ) Adam Curry.

MADISON: It was actually my brother that introduced me to SL. That seems like so long ago now!

COREY: And we all got together, hung out at Curry's castle at Doomaekkot, and many of us set up our homes and hangouts around his, promoting our own podcasts. We met so many people in rapid succession....it worked great as a way to get real-world listeners to our show.

MADISON: Yeah, but along the way it turned out that we were just plain old having fun too.

COREY: Then Curry (Adam Neumann in game) bought his own sim (Podshow Island, named after his podcasting web site Podshow.com), moved his castle there, and all of the podcasters in SL have spread out all around the virtual world since. But we all keep in touch and hang out regularly with our listeners and SL acquantances.

MADISON: There are still a number of them concentrated in that general area though. And even though we did eventually move, we're not far off.

I met Karrie at *gasp* the Shelter! She was dancing, I was dancing, our eyes met across the crowded room, I sauntered over to her, she smiled at me, I opened my mouth to speak, she threw a chew toy across the room, I fetched it, and we've been friends ever since!

How did you choose your name?: My real name is Carrie, so I added a 'K', and the last name is my best friend's

What's your favorite thing about SL?: Shopping, Dancing, Building, and Meeting new people

What do you like least about SL? The downtime on Wednesdays

Favorite hangout/store?: The Shelter; Stellar Designs; and Dazzle
