A Look at the Playboy Sim

Although I was a doubter in my previous post, having been to the Playboy sim (which is an island shaped like the Playboy bunny logo), I'm okay with saying that they have more to offer than previously suspected. I spoke with Zoey Witherspoon, one of the managers of the club, and gathered a bit of interesting information.

While she wouldn't say whether or not she was a RL Playboy employee, she did mention that they'll soon be holding auditions for the position of Bunny, so for those residents who are still at the stage of 'How can I make money in SL?', here's an opportunity for you. And Playboy does seem to 'get it', as the positions will be open to all types, including furries. Nicely played, boy! (I apologize for that; it won't happen again)

In the works is a photo booth for posing with a Bunny, a CyberGirl contest that will be affiliated with the real Playboy website, and Zoey mused aloud that there might be an SL version of the RL magazine, though she had no details. Additionally, there will be an upcoming Jazz event, with (presumably) live music as was on-hand for the launch itself. Thank you for talking with me, Zoey, and it looks like Playboy's done a great job with this!

More About the Second House of Sweden

Belmeloro DiPrima, project manager of the upcoming Second House of Sweden, was recently interviewed by Charlotte West for thelocal.se, and he shed a little light on what visitors to the build can expect once it's been opened. Unfortunately, he had to patiently sit through a few ridiculous questions.

"What makes Second Life different than a regular website?" Excuse me, did you not do your research? SL is no more a website than I am a braised halibut.

"Are you going to have the Swedish Bikini Team?" What are you, a reporter for Playboy? How is this even relevant?

"This all seems a bit geekish to me. Could you say that Second Life is only used by people who don't have a first life?" I, for one, am getting sick of the mainstream media's sneering attitude that SL is only fit for those who they feel are somehow incomplete in their everyday lives. Judging by the quality of the questions asked, this reporter had best get geekier than she is, or she'll be left behind the same way that wax enthusiasts are being left behind by the mp3 revolution, or the way television is being left behind by the new media phenomenon. Evolve or die, my friends; this is the way of the future.

Playboy to Offer Ice to Eskimos

The SL Herald breaks the news that Playboy is set to dip its toes into SL's pond sometime in June, and notes that there is no information on what their presence will entail. However, in a world where Playboy-level beauty is readily available, how can Hugh and the Girls compete?

I'd imagine there would have to be some sort of multimedia content, perhaps in the form of video streams of mansion parties, celebrity appearances, maybe some behind the scenes looks at photoshoots. They might choose to offer versions of their printed articles. You'll likely be able to purchase a subscription or an associated product.

Yet SL far outshines anything Playboy might come up with in the matter of prurient content -- pretty much anything you desire can be had for a price. Will this make a splash? Do we care?
