Scripting Recipes for Second Life

Of all SL activities, scripting is the most arcane art. I once took a Basics in Programming course just out of curiosity and came away with an abiding fear of the numbers 1 and 0. So when I hear about a book like Scripting Recipes for Second Life by Jeff Heaton, I think two things: 'Cool, this will help residents create even more fun things for me to play with', and 'aaiiieeeeeeeeeeeee'. Which of those two comes first depends on how vulnerable I'm feeling at any given time.

Homework Assignment: Someone who's into scripting buy this book and let me know if it's full of good things. Oh, and I love the cover art! So dreamy!

The Bluebird Cafe Spreads Its Virtual Wings

Nashville's Bluebird Cafe, famous for helping to expose the talent of musicians such as Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, has opened a SL branch where music lovers will be able to see live music every night. However, unlike many music venues in SL, there will be a fee for watching the video streams from the RL Bluebird Cafe, anywhere between 1000L and 2500L, though Sunday performances will be free.

Additionally, the venue will display memorabilia from the Cafe's history, including a retrospective of over 25 years of singer/songwriter music. Check out the venue's website here.

Autodesk to Architect Events in SL

Following this past week's 2007 American Institute of Architects (AIA) National Convention, AutoCAD maker Autodesk plans to hold events on its island, based on the themes espoused at the conference. The press release doesn't mention dates or times, but it's likely to be a well-visited event, given that there are a lot of architects in SL, both amateur and professional.

One of the themes for this year's convention was 'sustainable design', also known as 'going green'. The virtuality of SL certainly seems a good mode in which to start this dialogue. Once we have more information on the series of events and activities, we'll let you know.
