Be a Renaissance Man ... For Real

Or a Renaissance Woman, of course; don't let convention limit you! Regardless of what you choose to call yourself, the call has gone out for those interested in purchasing a parcel in the new private sim called Renaissance. This sim will feature Renaissance-era roleplay, and though there will likely be some room for non-roleplay parcels, first consideration will be given to roleplay.

From the press release: 'To reserve your parcel, please contact Steve Mahfouz by IM and give him a substantial deposit on the first month of rent. Once the parcels are all reserved, a waiting list will be started. Please watch this space and my website, http://ecstasyrealty.com, for full details as the time approaches for opening. The opening date should be within the next 14 calendar days.'

RP is on the rise in many MMOs; witness the RP-only realms in WoW, for instance. It's refreshing to see historical RP, which perforce requires more flexibility in action and thought to pull off properly. Personally, I'm waiting for Cro Magnon RP. I have a club all ready to go.

(Thanks, Steve!)

New resident experiences - Tirellia Zenkova

Second Life resident, Tirellia ZenkovaThis is the tenth in a series of interviews that are being conducted with new residents, in order to gauge the effectiveness of the orientation process, and to gauge disparities between the preconceptions and the realities of Second Life. The questions may be tailored slightly for each interview; responses may be edited for purposes of clarity.

Tirellia Zenkova is a new friend of a friend in Second Life. Despite being so recently arrived in Second Life, Zenkova already feels that she has found a place in Second Life where she is comfortable and is among friends: unlike many people who enter Second Life, she arrived with a purpose in mind - to become a roleplayer in Saijo City. Having a goal in mind, and timely and helpful intervention during her earliest hours, kept Zenkova inworld long enough to start enjoying things.

Dolltopia closes, blames poor communications from Linden Lab.

Ambiguous Linden Lab policies responsible for closure says content creator
Dolltopia closed.
Zoe Llewelyn, owner of the child-safe, PG roleplay region and business Dolltopia has had to regretfully close Dolltopia (the region, and the business) due to the risks inherent in what she sees as unwritten and unclear policies from Linden Lab's Governance and Community Development teams.

Llewelyn's Dolltopia hearkens to an age of innocent fantasy, and talking, living dolls that so very much partake of the memories of our youths - that many of us still take pleasure in experiencing on television, video and in cinemas with our own children and grandchildren.

Acting your age - or some other age.

Acting your age, or out of it.On the 8th of March we sought clarification for an ambiguous-seeming sentence at the end of a warning notice that was being distributed by Chadrick Linden. That sentence was:

"Any account asserting an age that does not meet Second Life's minimum age of eligibility will be closed."

What we wanted to know was whether that referred to the claimed age of the avatar (particularly where it came to role-playing purposes). After all, it was pretty clear that the claimed age of the user was covered by this - but what about role-players, you know, role-playing?
