SLCC - How to get laid

I'm going to file this one in the "too good to be true" section. One resident has decided to take SLCC to the next level, by anonymously cruising for sex. All that's known about her is that she is newly single, a larger woman, and ready to take action. She even has a system worked out. After exchanging emails, if it goes well, she'll approach you and whisper the password in your ear.

While not many in the thread on Second Citizen have taken her up on the offer yet, she has upped the ante by posting *ahem* a picture of her nether region. I'll just let you find that one yourself. This certainly raises the stakes for SLCC. If you are interested, send her an email.

With that said, what are your intentions for going to SLCC? Are you attending for business, pleasure, or ... other? Leave a comment!

qDot, Stroker, are you listening?

To run the risk of alienating my readers, I'm going to provide you with this link, and tell you that the first thing I thought of was teledildonics.

Even if you've never heard that word before, you know what it is. Honestly, is it just me, or is the first application of a virtual-to-real appliance interface NOT going to be a way to stimulate a partner over the Internet? Oh, sure, I suppose you could get excited by the thought of turning your homes' lights on and off remotely from work. It might be thrilling to think of turning on your air conditioner from your cubicle so that things are nice and cool by the time you get home. Or even, I suppose, manually engaging your security system to scare off that intruder you see lurking around your outdoors webcam.

But c'mon ... with the right rig, one-handed cybering could be a thing of the past. You will go to bed tonight thinking about it.

Thank You, Wretched Hive of Scum and Villainy

In a thought-provoking article over at Online Spin, Max Kalehoff lists three reasons why, contrary to popular belief, gambling and sex in SL are beneficial to its growth. His points seem to be:

  1. Sinful activity attracts interested parties in large numbers, which swells SL's population
  2. Traditionally, it's been these activities which have generated innovations in hardware and software, benefiting everyone
  3. The evolution of the practices of the gambling and sex industries forces similar evolution of legislation and policing standards in RL

How that last point benefits SL specifically is unclear to me, but perhaps one of our canny readers can enlighten me.

Dark Places - Apocalypse

All stories need a place to unfold, even those better left untold.
Feel that, sugar? Those are high-energy neutrons.
Feel that, sugar? Those are high-energy neutrons.

The twin sims of Midian City and Apocalypse loom large in the tales played out between the denizens of Midian City, the place. From an outsider's view, the place reeks of death, decay and despair; indeed, the initial notecard provided to travelers in this land supports rather than refutes this view. Moving from Midian City into Apocalypse, the quality of the buildings, and one imagines, of the air and water also, degrades steadily and with finality into a soupy ooze.

Giving Up Your Virtual Dignity

While many journalists cover SL from the sex angle, I've never read an article this detailed and in-depth. It's a well-done piece (so to speak), and covers the workings (and dysfunction) of an Xcite penis 'in the field'. It made me laugh, but it also made me think. And for those of you still wondering, yes, that last sentence was meant to be read satirically.

Seriously, however, I appreciated this article from the standpoint of someone who's gone through the exact same experience as this journalist has. Read it through; it's lengthy, but a fun ride ... just like sex should be. (Alert: text and photos are NSFW)

Stroker Speaks!

And I don't mean with a talking penis, either. Wired Magazine's sex columnist Regina Lynn had the opportunity to speak with Stroker and ask him something that we talk about in the podcast: who bought Amsterdam?

Stroker also talks a bit about his other work: Eros, and Strokerz Toys. I'm really interested in what's going to happen with Amsterdam now that it's been sold, and I hope to talk with Stroker myself and delve a little bit more into what went into his offering it for sale.

Second Life is not ... all about sex.

I mean, what's it all about? Really.Google will give you plenty of material that says Second Life is all about sex. Granted, much of that material is written by people who are not regular Second Lifers. Some of it is by people who have never visited. Of course some of it is by people who are absolutely Second Life regulars - albeit not very much of it.

Now you could take the literalist or comparative stances on the statement. If you take the literalist stance, of course Second Life isn't all about sex, because there's things in there that aren't in the least bit involved with sex - but that's a bit of an extreme approach. The comparative approach would be to compare it to things that we agree are not all about sex, but have measurable amounts of sex in them.

Spotlight - Amsterdam

Centraal
Created by Stroker Serpentine, and his able partner Fyre Raine, sim Amsterdam started out as a single sim, that has since grown into a network of 11 sims, with no apparent end in sight. One of the first things that really stands out about Amsterdam is the attention-to-detail. It feels very much like a real place, with signage, advertising, imperfections and litter.

Benja Soon said it made him miss the real Amsterdam, and lauded the accuracy of the design, "If the map went two more blocks to my right, I could visit my old apartment."

Within a week of it opening the stores were already beginning to fill up with hopeful sellers, and the streets and skies started to fill up with visiting avatars. Throughout 2006 the inhabitants, visitors and vendors of Amsterdam have refit and reinvented themselves again, and again. Amsterdam is always busy. In fact it is one of the busiest places in Second Life. Not just because of the realistic feel, but because of the undeniably mature atmosphere.
