Dolltopia closes, blames poor communications from Linden Lab.

Ambiguous Linden Lab policies responsible for closure says content creator
Dolltopia closed.
Zoe Llewelyn, owner of the child-safe, PG roleplay region and business Dolltopia has had to regretfully close Dolltopia (the region, and the business) due to the risks inherent in what she sees as unwritten and unclear policies from Linden Lab's Governance and Community Development teams.

Llewelyn's Dolltopia hearkens to an age of innocent fantasy, and talking, living dolls that so very much partake of the memories of our youths - that many of us still take pleasure in experiencing on television, video and in cinemas with our own children and grandchildren.

MMO Watch: BarbieGirls.com

You know you're old when you see something like this and recall with fondness the heady days of torching your little cousin's Barbie with a lighter held in the kung fu grip of a GI Joe. Well, she's beyond all harm now that she's virtual. To regain some of the audience lost to the Bratz line of girls' dolls, Mattel is launching BarbieGirls.com.

Malls, parlors, and pet stores are what await the Barbie afficionado online, where users will be able to create an avatar to hang out with friends. The site is still under construction, so we'll have to wait to see if Mattel's gamble pays off. Honestly, I'm not a big fan of the Barbie line of toys, and this isn't the place to get into a discussion of their long-term effects, but surely they're slightly better role models than the blinged-out, attitude-laden Britneys of tomorrow represented by Bratz. Oops, so much for journalistic reserve!

[NOTE: For those who find all the above text a little bit difficult to read. We don't have anything to do with BarbieGirls. If you have questions or comments about it, you're in the wrong place]

Just Askin': What're Your Favorite Toys?

I love getting little things sent to me, like the Dancing Cow attachment. I've spent many happy hours with friends goofing around with that thing ... maybe too many hours. I like Coal Nelson's Head Orbiters, too. I'm just a big fan of toys in general. I follow the adage espoused by Mr. Spock: "The more intelligent the creature, the greater the need for play."

So, in my ongoing quest for more toys, I ask you: What're your favorites, and where can they be gotten?

Toys: Fauna Footies

LOOK AT THESE SLIPPERS!

These are Fauna Footies, made by FireEyes Fauna, formerly of the Shelter (that story to come). These little guys are color customizable by way of the great new HUD FireEyes has developed ... you can change the eyes, horns, body, nose, nostrils, fins, and tail. They're available at the Kappa sim for 275L, and they're fabulous! And I'm not one to use that term lightly. Get yourself a pair today!

Toys: Bloody Head on Fire!

Here's a little something I picked up in the West Indies, couriering for the Masonic Order: The Bloody Head on Fire!

Notice that it's a light source, which is fun for casting a spooky shadow over your face for extra menace. If anyone would like to own one of these beauties, just drop by and find me... it's free!

[Disclaimer: Bloody Head on Fire not to be taken internally. Conditions subject to approval. Buyer responsible for tax, license, and dock fees. Do not taunt Bloody Head on Fire.]

New... ahem "toys" come to SL

Sweet little mice don't do ANYthing like thatI am going to be careful here. Second Life Insider attempts to be office-friendly, and so I have to warn you that the link to the forums leads to a posting which has linked pictures which are most definitely NOT office-friendly. Except maybe in the Netherlands, according to Oclee.

A manufacturer of toys of a certain adult nature, has contacted SL through the forums, to ask if he may demonstrate these SL-enabled toys to the SLCC. They enable partners who may be apart, to pleasure each other through the medium of SL and some very scary-looking rubbery bits that resemble a dreadful accident in a specialist doll factory. They somehow plug into SL and into each other despite the miles of separation, to allow each partner to feel a response from the other. Or similar.

My first reaction ... oh my! ... was echoed in the thread by a number of people before Siggy posted an historic few lines on the subject, part of which I think can be reproduced without offence being given: "I can't wait to read the article where SL crashes, their 'accu-jack' or whatever it is clamps down on their johnson as windows goes into that 30 seconds of 'hang time' while sl runs the crash logger. I'm gonna live for that day :P." you'll have to follow the link for the full post.

The resmods refused to touch it "I don't know where it's been", though Jeska moved the thread.. Also announced later in the thread, coming soon: the eSpanker. My mind hasn't stopped boggling, really.

Leaving Objects

And now, the corollary to my earlier post about taking objects: it's important to note that some objects, when rezzed, will explicitly require you to take them back into your inventory before you leave a sim. For example, I have a little purple dragon who I like to pull out of my inventory every now and then so he can fly around with me. His name is Nexium. He's a good little guy, unobtrusive, cute, etc. However, if I've been a bad companion, and decide to teleport to somewhere else without having first taken him back into my inventory, I get message after message stating that 'Your little purple dragon is lost at xx, xx, xx coordinates.'

This just breaks my heart... my object isn't just stuck in the sim I'd just left; he's actually lost. Poor little guy! All cold and lonely and scared, not knowing where to go, or who to trust... hoping that his owner will come back and take him home... *sniff* I -- I'm sorry, I... I have something in my eye...

Please, learn from my example... pick up your toys before you leave. Think of the children.
